5/11/2017 0 Comments Closer to a Solution...Today, we took a walk outside of the school to look at an area that might help answer our project driving question, "How can we help bring butterflies to Joe Lee Johnson to help the ecosystem?" We have found an area and have come up with several solutions. Today, we wrote on Padlet all of our ideas, and tomorrow we will separate all the different ideas and decide on a class solution! We are having such a great time helping out.
5/10/2017 0 Comments Building our Derby CarsToday, we built our derby cars! I wanted to share some of the process and the excitement each student had! We had a great time. This Friday, we will race to see who our class winner is! The class winner will complete will compete against all of fourth grade, and the fourth grade winner will compete against the whole school for a school winner. So exciting!
It is National Write a Letter month! We are writing letters to the person of our choice, and we will be sending them in the mail between now and Thursday. They have been working very hard and are excited to send them to their person of choice.
4/13/2017 0 Comments Egg Hunt!Today, we had a GREAT time. Every morning, we do a whole page from our Countdown to STAAR math packets for our morning work. I had written on the board that they could relax this morning and work on unfinished work, because they didn't have to do a page from their packet...YET! They didn't really ask about what yet meant and went on with their day. I laid out 20 eggs for my students and let them know that they could each get one. I told them that if they had an egg that felt kind of later, they might have a special prize. When everybody realized that their egg was light, they had no idea that they were all winners! They unveiled a math problem from their Countdown to STAAR papers. Now, I'm not so mean as to do this and not offer them candy. Of course, they did have to show how they solved the problem and they got two pieces of candy! Their faces were priceless! I just had to share. They still had so much fun and were excited to find their answers. 4/12/2017 0 Comments Nature WalkWe ended the day with our long anticipated nature walk! This was to kick off our new project, and we hope to restore the ecosystem in various areas of our school. We were able to see all but one area and expect to visit the last area today. The students have already done such a great job identifying areas that need improvement for animals to live. Here are some pictures from adventures! 4/4/2017 0 Comments A Morning of Making InferencesWe are working really hard with making inferences this week. We have sorted words into categories and written summaries based on only those few words! After we are finished, we will read the story and reveal if we were correct in where we placed our words.
3/6/2017 0 Comments First Trailblazer Pep Rally! On Friday, March 3, we had our very first Joe Lee Johnson pep rally! There were student performances, encouraging videos, and the first spirit stick award. We had a great time representing fourth grade and cheering for others.
3/6/2017 0 Comments Author Nathan Hale VisitOn February 24, 2017, we had the pleasure of welcoming author Nathan Hale to our school. He taught social studies concepts in the most phone way; he taught the students with graphics. I will even say that I learned from what he taught! Nathan Hale has several graphic novels and the students are very interested in his books. If you decide to pick up one of these books for your own enjoyment, you won't be disappointed!
1/18/2017 0 Comments Learning to Use ApolloToday we are kicking off using Apollo to help our learning! We are reviewing for a fractions test tomorrow and exploring a new way to review. This is a really neat program and allows the students to work on their computer. I can see if they leave a lesson and I can see them answering the question in case something happens! I could even record a lesson so that if a student is absent or struggling, they can have a repeat of the lesson.
This is impressive. I hear the students saying, "Mrs. Stoughton, this is FUN!" When I hear that I know that they are excited to learn and we are moving mountains! I will post some pictures as we use it and if I can figure it out, I will post videos. |
